Revlite can rapidly and effectively remove vellus hair

Vellus hair, also known as fine hair, refers to the soft fine hair covering a large area of the skin surface with the physiological function of allowing sweat to evaporate through it, thereby promoting heat dissipation. Vellus hair may influence the appearance if they are too long or too obvious. Besides, they may also make it difficult to apply daily skincare or makeup and even cause embarrassment on important occasions.

Xu Zhigong, Director of the Dermatological Department at the Yangming Branch of Taipei City Hospital, says that the currently available vellus hair removal methods all have certain disadvantages. The great majority of laser hair removers can only remove coarse hair, such as the structurally integrated terminal hair of the armpit and chest, and do not have an ideal effect on short and light-colored fine hair.

The medical cosmetology center established by the Yangming Branch of Taipei City Hospital is equipped with Revlite, a new-type V beam laser which can rapidly and effectively remove unwanted vellus hair. Dr. Xu says that Revlite is a type of X-ray that uses Nd:YAG medium to send an infrared band of 1064 nm; it can penetrate into the skin’s tissue by 8mm, while being equipped with a Q-switching mechanism and a laser pulse of below 20ns. Such characteristics enable the laser to effectively shatter the vellus hair structure and break up hair root tissues to achieve the curative effect of instantly destroying hair.

Xu also says that one may have to undergo laser treatment every month due to differences in the hair growth cycle, and around four hair removal treatment courses in total are required to achieve a stable hair removal effect. Obvious progress can usually be seen after the first treatment, and follow-up maintenance courses are designed to give sufficient laser illumination to partial re-born hair to prevent the recurrence of hair growth.
