Chinese Medicine helps to improve and regulate discomfort from menopause

       City Hospital Hepeng Fuyou Branch, reminds women undergoing menopause that they should be aware of the following:

  1. Regular lifestyle, avoid staying up late and over exhaustion, avoid stimulative drinks (such as coffee and tea), avoid alcoholic drinks and other drinks which may affect sleep quality.                                                                                                      
  2. Avoid BBQ, deep fried, green onion, ginger, garlic, chili, other spices and “hot” food (such as: lamb, beef, peanuts, durian, mango, longan, lychee, etc.) in your diet. The above food may cause aggravation of flushing, night sweats, sleep disturbance, etc.                                                                                                            
  3. Food selection should go for yam, ginkgo, soybean, black bean, raspberry, mushroom, black fungus, pumpkin and other ingredients which can help to regulate body hormones and adjust menopausal symptoms and discomfort.                   
  4. Due to the reduction of female hormones post menopause, it is suggested that an increase intake of calcium rich food for osteoporosis prevention (for instance: milk products, black sesame, dried fish, whitebait, legumes, dark vegetables etc.), and adequate outdoor exercise and sun exposure.                                                                     
  5. Acupuncture point massage: Daily massage of Motaishi, Sanyinjiao, Taichong, and Shenmen 20-30 times can alleviate menopausal agitation, anxiety, insomnia, hot flushes, etc. A foot bath prior to sleep for 10-15 minutes also may assist with falling to sleep.
