Medical quality indexes of more diseases and search methods are new additions to NHI Medical Information Website

New additions to the “NHI Medical Information Website” in 2010 were the medical quality indexes of “dialysis therapy (renal dialysis)”, “peptic ulcer” and “asthma”. By referring to these indexes, patients can evaluate which medical care institutions offer quality medical care that meets their needs before seeking medical advice that is, choose a hospital offering the highest quality of medical care to treat their diseases. For patients in need of dialysis and those with peptic ulcer and asthma, the website provides information such as blood dialysis efficiency (Kt/V) checkup rate, blood dialysis albumin checkup rate, the percentage of asthma patients participating in medical care programs, rehospitalization rate of asthma patients within 14 days after hospital discharge, and the percentage of peptic ulcer patients administered bactericidal drugs, and the percentage of peptic ulcer patients administered oral anti-inflammatory drugs within one year after starting the treatment etc.

This website provides updated search methods. By clicking “search by map” under “search for hospitals”, the search results will display various medical quality indexes including trend diagrams, regional comparison diagrams and comparison diagrams of hospitals at different levels. By moving the cursor to a certain city or county shown on the map of Taiwan, values of such city or county will be displayed. People can select medical care institutions located in different cities and counties by clicking the map. After selecting several hospitals, people can directly make a comparison of them. People can also click the “medical care institution name” to retrieve relevant information about the chosen hospital, for instance, location, address, telephone number, departments, preventive healthcare business and so on.

The “Disclosure of Medical Quality Information under Total Amount Negotiation” on the official website of the Bureau of National Health Insurance (NHI) also provides similar search methods. This website has revealed 73 types of medical quality information classified according to types of medical care institutions since 2005 to the public as the reference for seeking medical care. People can directly visit the NHI official website (www.nhi.gov.tw), and click the “Disclosure of Medical Quality Information” to have an access to these websites, the “NHI Medical Information Website” and the “Disclosure of Medical Quality Information under Total Amount Negotiation”
