Department of Emergency Medicine

The Emergency Department provides Emergency and Disaster Medicine, which provides emergency care to the patients in acute distress. It offers a full spectrum of emergency and trauma care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Around-the-clock in the Department, service is provided by specialists who are board-certified in Emergency Medicine. These individuals provide trauma care, acute and urgent care, fast track care and patient and family services. Furthermore, the care teams have access to sub-specialists at all hours of the day and night. The facilities are fully equipped to ensure effective management of every kind of emergency condition.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was officially opened on December 29, 2003. It is situated in Taipei City Hospital, ZhongXing Branch. It is the only and first Emergency Operation Center run by local government. Whenever there is incident that involves any kind of disaster, the EOC will analyze it and initiate a relevant level of Standard of Operation that is appropriate; it also integrates both vertical and horizontal connections between all the medical emergency recourses that are on regularly standby around the clock. It also has direct connection to Fire Department's "Pre-hospital Emergency Medical Rescue System". It will respond and assist immediately with all medical rescue needs within Taipei City in an appropriate manner.

In order to maintain the highest quality of emergency care services, we are responsible for various resuscitative curriculums including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support, emergency medical technician training, and disaster medical assistance team training courses. The Department is also an active participant in various disaster drills.

In addition, new features have been developed to ensure your safety, privacy and comfort. Emergency Department highlights include:

  • The Triage System ensures immediate treatment for critically ill patients.
  • Over 228,000 patients treated annually. About 35,000 of these patients are subsequently admitted to inpatient services.
  • 24-hour full emergency services at all campuses (Jungshing Branch, Renai Branch, Zhongxiao Branch, Yangming Branch, Jungshiau Branch).
  • EOC enhances the capability to respond to various disasters and emergencies.
  • An emergency heliport located on Jungshing Branch that allows air rescue patients to be quickly airlifted to our trauma center.
