International Observership Program for Home-Based Medical Care

Program Duration
Two weeks to three months (May be adjusted according to application requirements.)
Eligibility
This program is designed for international physicians or residents. Applicants should have a medical license from their country and should have adequate language ability in Chinese or English.
Students could apply after passing the unit evaluation.

Brief Description
The main objective of this program is to cultivate physicians with the six core competencies of modern physicians proposed by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education that are as follows:
patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, systems-based practice.
Through classes and practical observations, we aim to stimulate motivation for caring for patients, implement holistic care, assist understanding of health issues, and promote the ability to evaluate patients and to formulate and implement health plans.

Learning Aims
  1. Develop the ability to evaluate and manage patients at the biological, psychological, and social and levels while practicing home-based medical care.
  2. Learn how to work with professionals in a variety of fields.
  3. Learn the skills to communicate with patients, family members, colleagues, professionals, and the community. Learn the essence of shared decision making (SDM).
  4. Learn about diseases or conditions that are common in home-based medical care and compare with outpatient clinics.
  5. Learn about keys to prescriptions in home-based medical care.
  6. Learn about preventive health care and health promotion.
  7. Learn about the prevention and management of disuse and disabilities.
  8. Learn about the principles of community rehabilitation.
  9. Learn about the care of long-term care patients outside of institutions.
  10. Learn about home-based medical care and long-term care systems, case management, and ethics and legal issues.
