Sun Protection for Babies

Shao Xiangde, a dermatologist at the Renai Branch of Taipei City Hospital, says that given the delicate skin of infants, they are more sensitive to ultraviolet rays and therefore should be prevented from sun exposure as far as possible. For infants less than six months old, it is recommended that clothing is used to block the sun, while toddlers older than six months should put on sunscreen products suitable for children, as well as sun protective clothing. To prevent babies from allergic reactions to sunscreen products, pure physical sunscreen products containing inert ingredients should be selected.

Like cosmetics and skin care products, sunscreen lotions may also result in irritation, discomfort, light sensitization, contact dermatitis and other side effects, so products with too many additives should be avoided. Besides, the PABA ingredient in chemical sunscreens may also easily cause allergies. The information can serve as a reference in product selection.
