Exercise is increasingly popular nationwide: beware of tendon ruptures

In recent years, exercise has become increasingly popular nationwide and many people have gradually developed the habit of exercising regularly, through ball games or jogging, etc, with the number of people that exercise continuing to grow. However, doctors remind us that although exercising can build up the body and improve the quality of life, sports injuries caused by various different training methods in order to enhance competitiveness in athletic contests, as well as tendon ruptures, should not be ignored.

Luo Haoru, Attending Doctor of the Orthopedics Department at the Renai Branch of Taipei City Hospital, says that if you experience discomfort during exercise, such as abnormal joint noise or local muscle pain, gently stop exercising, have a rest and undertake a self-examination before deciding whether to continue to exercise.

If the pain is severe to the point of affecting normal muscle force and daily life, it is recommended to visit the orthopedics department or the rehabilitation department where doctors will ask about your medical history and perform an “inductive testing” examination to induce pain and weakness in order to diagnose which tendon or joint has gone wrong. Image examination can also help to evaluate the correctness of the diagnosis.
